On the morning of January 19th, I started collecting links – as many as I can find with minimal effort – that discuss the Albert Pujols contract discussions. Why? Who knows, yet here they are. Oh, and to serve you all, our three loyal readers! The Daily Pujols certainly won’t be a comprehensive list, but between local, national, and blog coverage, maybe you’ll find something here you otherwise wouldn’t. Without further delay, here is today’s Daily Weekly Irregular Pujols…
I can usually tell when I haven’t done this in a while, because the ol’ inbox fills up quickly. Strangely (or not, depending on your viewpoint on the whole no-negotiation thing), there really hasn’t been much focus on Albert’s contract early in the season. As such, I haven’t put up any AP contract links since prior to Opening Day. Well, no more.
On with some links:
Mark Saxon at ESPN Los Angeles explores whether Pujols might fit with the Angels or Dodgers. Given the age of the story and recent events, I tend to think that the latter is unlikely, unless Bud wants to make a splash for the Dodgers or make them look more appealing to a potential new owner.
Bernie Miklasz looks at potential suitors and which can “afford” Pujols, at STLToday.com.
Friend of PH8 Matt Sebek at Joe Sports Fan found “that guy” with the Pujols Cubs jersey at Busch on opening weekend.
Baseball Ink makes comparisons between St. Louis money and the same money in other MLB cities, comparative based upon cost-of-living. Interesting stuff.
Brian McNally at the Washington Examiner talked to Joe Buck about the Pujols negotiations, and Buck thinks it “has the potential of getting really ugly.” Shocking.
Cubbies Crib doesn’t believe all of the AP-to-the-North-Side rumors.
The Post-Dispatch water cooler generally agrees that the Adrian Gonzalez contract doesn’t necessarily do much to affect the Pujols deal, other than reinforce current going rate and perhaps take one more suitor out of the race.
A reader letter to the Springfield State-Journal Register opines that since Pujols “came to the United States from the Dominican Republic with nothing” his desire to be well-compensated is ridiculous. Hilarity ensues in a comment section available on a reader letter. Awesome.
Bud Selig thinks that Puj0ls staying in St. Louis is good for baseball. Me too.
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune thinks that the new Ryan Braun contract extension further forces the hand of Jim Hendry to sign Pujols to play for the Cubs. Since when have the Brewers forced anything when it comes to free agency and contracts? Fascinating.
